Cherokee Trail High School Senior Pictures at Aurora Reservoir
This next sneak peek is especially meaningful because it's for one of my wonderful neighbors! It's hard to believe Whitaker will be starting his senior year at Cherokee Trail High School in just a few weeks. He was already ahead of the game by scheduling his senior pictures during the summer, and we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful evening at Aurora Reservoir for his session.
Before the session, I visited the location to see how it was looking after our current drought. While parts of the reservoir were drier than usual, I found several gorgeous areas filled with native grasses, mature trees, and beautiful open spaces. On the evening of Whitaker's session, we were even treated to perfect cloud cover that created soft, flattering light throughout the entire shoot.
Two Senior Outfit Ideas That Create Variety
We walked down a way to a little trail that goes off road a bit so we could capture more of the natural Coloraod setting. Whitaker started with a polished look featuring black dress pants, a blue sweater, and a collared shirt underneath. I always encourage seniors to bring at least two outfits because it gives their gallery much more variety, and Whitaker's wardrobe choices complemented each other perfectly.
He was also a great sport, stepping into tall grasses and crouching in different locations so we could create a variety of images. The clouds allowed us to really explore more of the fields and we had amazing dramatic skies that also added to his portraits.
Lakeside Senior Portraits with Boulders
After a quick outfit change into jeans and polo, we went to my water spot nearby with large boulders and a lake. This area was still quite green and we were able to get lots of great photos and angles along the walking path and along the rocks.
The combination of water, natural textures, and evening light created wonderful images to add to his final gallery.
A Special Family Photo to Remember Senior Year
One of my favorite moments from the evening was capturing a portrait Whitaker's mom had requested. She wanted a photo of her and her husband holding hands while Whitaker stood in sharp focus in front of them—a meaningful image representing this exciting transition into his senior year.
We experimented with the idea in several locations throughout the session, but the final version near the end of the evening turned out to be my favorite thanks to the beautiful light.

Overall, Whitaker's senior session was such a fun evening, and I loved getting to celebrate this exciting milestone with his family. I can't wait to share more of his gallery, and I wish him an incredible senior year at Cherokee Trail High School and all the success that comes after graduation.
