A Beautiful Colorado Evening for Senior Pictures
Kyle and his mom met me for an evening senior session so we'd have plenty of time to complete his portraits before yearbook deadlines. We couldn't have asked for better weather. The golden evening light, beautiful clouds, and relaxed pace of the session made for the perfect combination.
One of my favorite parts of senior sessions is simply getting to know each student, and I really enjoyed hearing about Kyle's senior year and his plans for the future while we explored one of my favorite hidden locations in Southeast Aurora.
A Relaxed First Look
Kyle started the session wearing a casual black shirt paired with some great sneakers that fit his personality perfectly.
We began among the towering pine trees before moving to a rustic area featuring beautiful stonework and warm wooden architectural details. The dark shirt contrasted beautifully against the natural textures, while the dramatic Colorado sky gave us several opportunities to include the clouds and distant mountain views in his portraits.
Golden Hour and a Perfect Sunset
For his second outfit, Kyle changed into a maroon shirt that complemented the warm evening colors beautifully.
We spent time near a charming bridge experimenting with different poses before the sunset really began to light up the sky. Kyle even humored me by trying a few more serious expressions—and honestly, he pulled them off much better than I ever could!
One of my favorite moments happened completely naturally when he looked over at his mom and laughed. Capturing those genuine smiles is always my favorite part of a session.
Ending Among Colorado's Native Grasses
To finish the evening, Kyle suggested walking a little farther down the hill into the tall native grasses.
It turned out to be the perfect ending to the session. The glowing sunset behind him created some of my favorite portraits from the entire evening and perfectly captured the relaxed, natural feel we were hoping for.
Why I Love Hidden Outdoor Locations
Some of my favorite senior sessions happen in places that aren't necessarily well known. Quiet open spaces, mature trees, scenic bridges, and beautiful evening light often create timeless portraits without the crowds found at more popular locations.
Finding these hidden gems allows every gallery to feel personal while showcasing the beauty of Colorado's natural landscape.
Celebrating the Next Adventure
It was such a pleasure getting to know Kyle throughout the evening and hearing about his plans to study civil engineering after high school. I always enjoy learning about each senior's dreams and future goals—it makes celebrating this milestone even more meaningful.
Congratulations, Kyle! I wish you all the best during your senior year and as you begin this exciting next chapter.
If you're looking for an Aurora senior photographer, I'd love to help you create a relaxed outdoor session that reflects your personality while taking advantage of Colorado's beautiful natural scenery.
