A Beautiful Fall Senior Session at Hudson Gardens
The last time I met Carly and her mom was for her older sister's senior pictures. It's hard to believe how quickly time passes, because now we were back at Hudson Gardens celebrating Carly's senior year. We were greeted with a beautiful fall morning and nearly empty gardens, making it the perfect setting for her senior portraits.
Adjusting Our Plans for the Perfect Session
This year, Hudson Gardens introduced a new photography policy that closes the gardens around 4:00 p.m. before their seasonal pumpkin event begins each evening. In previous years, I was able to photograph sessions closer to sunset before the event started, but this change meant we needed to adjust our plans.
Since Carly had her heart set on Hudson Gardens, we simply changed our timing instead of changing locations.
That meant an early sunrise session—and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we could have made.
Sunrise Light and Gorgeous Fall Flowers
Talk about dedication! We all met right as the gardens opened, and the reward was incredible. The weather was cool, the lighting was soft and beautiful, and we practically had the entire property to ourselves.
Carly started in a yellow sundress paired with white boots, which looked perfect among the colorful gardens. We began in the rose garden and trellis area where the roses were still blooming beautifully. Between the white and pink blossoms, pockets of fall flowers, and trees just beginning to turn golden, every direction offered another beautiful backdrop.
A Casual Look Around the Gardens
After a quick outfit change into jeans and a black top, we explored another area of Hudson Gardens near the red barn and lake.
The pumpkins for the fall festival were already on display, so we had to get a little creative and adjust a few of our planned locations. Thankfully, that's one of the things I enjoy most about outdoor sessions—finding new perspectives and making each location work.
Although the main bridge was unavailable, we discovered a smaller bridge along the stream that turned out to be even more charming. We also finished the session walking through the tall summer grasses and colorful trees that were still putting on a beautiful late-season display.
Why Hudson Gardens Is a Favorite Senior Picture Location
Hudson Gardens is one of my favorite locations for senior sessions because it offers so much variety in one place. From formal gardens and blooming flowers to rustic barns, bridges, lakes, and seasonal color, every session has a unique look while still feeling timeless and natural.
Planning Your Own Hudson Gardens Senior Session
Even with the early start and a few changes to our original plans, I think we absolutely hit the jackpot. It was such a fun morning, and Carly now has a gallery full of beautiful memories to celebrate her senior year.
If you're considering Hudson Gardens for your senior pictures, I'd love to help you plan the perfect session. Whether you're dreaming of spring flowers, summer greenery, or gorgeous Colorado fall colors, we'll choose the best timing to create a session that's uniquely yours.
