How Do I Edit Senior Photos?

Every parent wants their child to look and feel their best for these special images. After all, they are featured in their high school yearbook and likely in a signature memory album as a keepsake for years to come. Not to mention many parents choose to take advantage of the one complimentary family photo and display that as a large canvas print on a prominent wall in their home.

Summer and early fall are key times for senior photos, due to the all-important deadline for the high school yearbook submission. If you’ve not gone through this process with a child before, it can be daunting to find a photographer, location for outdoor photos, and navigate the technical details per your school’s yearbook. Then as it all starts to settle in WHERE these photos will be used, I get asked this very important question: “Do you edit my senior’s photos, especially if my child has acne?”

The short answer is yes!

I hand edit and touch up every single image in all my galleries, from newborns to families and seniors.

I actually had acne as a teen and I certainly didn't want to relive that every time I see my own senior pictures. My mom took several images, ordered huge prints for the wall by the front door, and then added my siblings’ photos next to mine as they graduated high school. Thank goodness my photographer back then edited my acne so I actually like seeing ME in my senior photos, not a bunch of pimples on my face.

This is how I see it:

You’ve hired me, a professional, for my expertise so you don’t have to worry about the details. I know lighting, times of day, and posing to flatter each figure and make your child feel fabulous during their session. I take the time to chat and get to know them so they loosen up and relax, and capture genuine smiles. I don’t want them worrying about acne when this is their chance to be in the spotlight.

So for all my senior sessions, I certainly provide final edits to make your senior photos amazing. That means I edit for all kinds of little details like bug bites, stray hairs, pet hair, and, of course, acne.

But I also don't want you to look over-edited. No one wants their child to look like plastic or completely not like themselves. I work hard to find that balance of making each senior look their best while not appearing too "Photoshop-ed". I have numerous tricks up my sleeve and knowledge on how to edit images that may need a little re-touching so when you view the final photo, you see YOU.

That's one of the biggest things I want clients to know about my senior sessions. Don't worry about acne or blemishes. Come to the session relaxed and ready to have a good time capturing memories of this special moment in your life.

I want you to absolutely LOVE your pictures and WANT to share them, frame them, print them…all of the above! And I will get you to the finish line with a beautiful gallery.

So no worrying about acne! I've been there and completely understand. Let me use my skills to capture amazing photos, give me your best smile, and have fun! These are memories that will last a lifetime.
