Frequently Asked Questions About
Senior Pictures
Planning senior pictures comes with lots of questions, from choosing the best season and location to deciding what to wear and when to book. I've gathered the answers to the questions I hear most often from families throughout Aurora, Parker, Centennial, Cherry Creek, and the greater Denver area. If you don't see your question here, I'd love to help—just reach out!
Booking Your Session
When should I schedule my senior pictures?
Yearbook deadlines for most area high schools (including Grandview High School, Eaglecrest High School, and Cherokee Trail High School) are typically after fall break near the end of October.
The ideal time for senior portraits is during the summer before senior year or early fall. Booking early gives you the best choice of dates and ensures your photos are ready before the yearbook deadline.
How far in advance should I book?
Key date toward the end of September and early October are the most popular due to the chance for fall colors across the Denver metro. If you have your heart set on fall leaves then reach out 2 or more months in advance to secure on of those prime dates.
Most sessions can be scheduled about a month in advance. Check your teens calendar beforehand for their work or sports schedule. As the yearbook deadlines get closer, session dates may be harder to find.
What time of year is best?
There’s truly no “best” time to capture senior pictures. If you love the flowers and colors of summer, book the summer before your senior year. If you have your heart set on fall leaves in yellow and red, reach out about an early October session.
AND if you happen to want photos even after yearbook deadlines, spring is a lovely time to schedule and can be great for updated photos for graduation announcements, party invitations, etc.
Can I book after school starts?
Yes! While summer can sometimes be easier to find time to schedule a session, many students book after they are back in school. You still have plenty of time to schedule between school starting and fall yearbook deadlines.
Preparing for Your Session
What should I wear?
I have a detailed style guide for clients after booking that answers this question and more so you feel confident before arriving for your senior pictures.
How many outfits can I bring?
I would recommend starting with 1-2 different outfits that best represent your personality and style. I have more detailed recommendations in my Senior Style Guide (which is available to booked clients) that cover textures, details, accessories, and more.
Can I include sports uniforms? My Instrument? My Car?
Yes to all of the above! If you have something special to you that you want photographed at your session, let me know during our initial conversations so we can chat about adding it during your pictures.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes! I love dogs (and regularly foster puppies) so your family pet is always welcome. I do recommend having a plan for someone else to hold your dog when they are not being photographed as my hands will be full with my camera equipment.
During the Session
How long does a session last?
Sessions are about 1-1.5 hours depending on our chosen location, number of outfit changes, etc. I can give more specific times after booking and those details are finalized.
What if I'm awkward in front of the camera?
Great question! I will guide you through every pose, expression, and movement from start to finish. My job is to help you feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely like yourself, so your personality shines through in every image.
My teen hates having pictures taken…
My goal is to make our time together feel more like a conversation while we just happen to be taking photos. Not many people like having a camera in their face, and I guide your teen through poses so they come away remembering the fun they had, not the camera.
What happens if I have acne?
I know from personal experience during my own teenage years how frustrating acne can be. I can assure you that I hand edit every image in your gallery and ensure things like acne, dog hair, stray hairs, and more are corrected. I also make sure you still look like YOU after those edits, so all you see when you view your pictures is your authentic self (not the acne).
Can my parents come?
Yes! Parents are aways welcome. It’s a big day for everyone and mom and dad can sometimes help teens relax with their presence along with helping carry any outfit changes
Can parents be in a few pictures?
Yes! I highly encourage you to take advantage of the session by capturing 1-2 pictures with your teen or even getting a full family picture. Let me know if this is desired as I can work with you on timing to make sure we plan for that during your session.
Location Questions
Where do sessions take place?
One of my favorite parts of planning your session is helping you choose the perfect location! I photograph families and seniors throughout Aurora, Parker, Centennial, Cherry Creek, Denver, and the surrounding communities, with a collection of beautiful outdoor locations that each offer something unique. Whether you love open fields, mountain views, colorful gardens, or a more urban setting, we'll choose a location that complements your personality and the look you're hoping to achieve.
Not sure where to start? I have a Senior Location Guide for booked clients that lists some of my favorite spots around the Denver metro area.
Can I choose my location?
Absolutely! If you already have a favorite location that holds special meaning, I'd love to photograph you there. If you're not sure where to go, I'll help you choose based on the season, lighting, your outfits, and the style you're envisioning. Over the years, I've photographed sessions throughout Aurora, Parker, Centennial, Cherry Creek, Denver, Castle Rock, and beyond, so I have plenty of recommendations for every style and season.
What if it rains?
Colorado weather definitely likes to keep us guessing! If rain, high winds, or other weather conditions would prevent us from creating beautiful images, we'll simply reschedule for the next available date that works for everyone. I always keep a close eye on the forecast leading up to your session and will stay in touch so you never have to worry about making the wrong call.
Sometimes dramatic Colorado skies even make for some of my favorite portraits!
Do you travel?
Yes! Most of my sessions take place throughout Aurora, Parker, Centennial, Cherry Creek, Denver, and the surrounding southeast Denver metro communities, but I'm always happy to travel for the right location. A few specialty locations include the RiNo Arts District for a more city/graffiti look, Denver Botanic Gardens, and Hudson Gardens.
Additional travel fees may apply depending on the location.
After the Session
When will I receive my gallery?
You'll receive your fully edited online gallery within approximately 2 weeks of your session. Every image is individually hand-edited to ensure your gallery reflects the quality and attention to detail you expect. Once your gallery is ready, you'll be able to view your images, choose your favorites, download your included digital files, and order artwork directly online.
Do you offer prints?
Yes! While digital images are wonderful for sharing online, there's nothing quite like seeing your favorite portraits displayed in your home. I offer professionally printed heirloom products including wall art, framed prints, canvases, albums, and gift prints that are designed to last for generations. These products are created through professional labs with exceptional color accuracy and archival quality that simply can't be matched by most consumer print labs.

How do I order artwork?
Ordering artwork is easy! Once your online gallery is delivered, you can browse a variety of professionally printed products directly from your gallery. If you'd like help designing a gallery wall, selecting album images, or choosing the perfect size for your home, I'm always happy to provide personalized recommendations. My goal is to help you enjoy your portraits every day—not just on your phone.
Can I share my images online?
Absolutely! I love seeing your excitement when you share your portraits with family and friends. You're welcome to post your images on social media, and I'd love it if you tagged @JenniferLynnPhotography09 when you do!
Please avoid applying filters or additional editing so your images are displayed as they were professionally created.
